Bill Friday
Album:"Lost Gems & Some Of My Own" ![]() |
|
Bill Friday has loved country music since before he knew there was a category called country music. He grew up in Rhode Island listening to all the big names of the late 50s and 60s on mixed formated radio stations, but only felt comfortable with songs by Marty Robbins, Eddy Arnold, Sonny James, and Jim Reeves..
Bill "discovered" country music in Texas while in the U.S. Air Force and has never looked back. He, like many performers, began playing guitar in his early teens and has since added bass, mandolin, and lap steel to his list of instruments... but above all, he is a singer who plays instruments. He worked in the radio industry for 23 years and was a music director and program director as well as an announcer at country radio stations for 20 of those years in Texas, Oklahoma, New Hampshire, Alaska, and Rhode Island. He has won numerous awards for his music but is most proud of being inducted to the Country Music Association of Rhode Island's Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004. Bill won several awards during the Country Music Association of Rhode Islands' 2005 annual award show including: Male Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Rhythm Guitar Player of the Year and Song of the Year for "I Remember" from his album Friday Country: Lost Gems and Some of My Own. |
